This is an alternative duct for the Prusa Mini Detachable Cooling Duct Assembly V2 by BoothyBoothy.

(Update 21-09-2021) The first design hit the heat-bed connector during the bed levelling test. There's still a bit of an unprintable zone of about 1-2 cm around the obstacles at the top of the bed, but they're clear during the test.

I decided to make a more streamlined duct, as the (altered) original one didn't leave much room for wires. This one is meant to take up as little room as possible while still doing it's job. The nozzle itself is the same height as the "nut" of a standard E3D nozzle. It can be used with the normal PINDA bracket.

The assembly is compatible with the stock hot-end. You'll only need to print the x-carriage and a fan duct.

Design

The design is primarily done by intuition, but a water test gave a nice even dimple straight under the nozzle. Overhangs also seem to do well.

I have attached a Fusion 360 file so you can play with/enhance the design yourself (gore warning! It ain't pretty).

The height of the duct is driven by the heater block (look for the move node named "Heaterblock Height") and the width of the duct in relation to the block is driven by the sketch named "Duct Base" somewhere in the middle of the time line. If you adjust these two within reason, the rest of the design should follow automatically.

Print settings:

  • PETG or better temperature resistant
  • 0.20 mm
  • Supports under the back part or print upright
