Description

PDF

This was put together for someone I know who is a fan of The Owl House animated show.  It is basically “full size” but could likely be scaled down.

Edited 9-20-2021 to add an “all parts” STL file for use with MMU printing.

Assembly :

I opted to just go with gluing the pieces together instead of trying to design in snap fits or something similar. I recommend using a “thick” glue like E6000, but no doubt other transparent hobby glues would also work.  As it happens, the beak and eye pupils are a tight press fit and do not really need gluing. However, the eyes themselves, and the two parts of the face do need to be glued. When gluing the face pieces together, I recommend holding the parts together with masking tape while the glue sets.

Note that the left and right eyes and pupils are not interchangeable, so make sure to get the correct eye pieces into the correct openings. And remember that Hooty's right eye is on your left!  I recommend inserting the pupil into each eye first (be sure to rotate the pupils so that they line up properly; note that the right pupil is taller than the left pupil. With the pupil and eye pieces assembled, glue each eye piece into place, taking care to rotate each piece so that the bottom of each piece is flush with the bottom of the face.

Hanging instructions :

There are screw slots on the back of the face pieces. It can be hung from a single screw on the upper slot, or two screws on the lower slots. It's not necessary to use all three slots.

Print Instructions :

This is designed to be printed in multiple colors of PLA.  The parts and colors I used are as follows :

  • Face Bottom - light brown or tan
  • Face Top- dark brown
  • Eye Left, Eye Right - black
  • Pupil Left, Pupil Right - white
  • Beak - dark brown

I tried to stay as faithful to the original colors as possible, using the filaments I had available (but I wish I had a lighter brown for the Face Lower).

You can use the included 3mf or gcode file to print. I printed all of the pieces with 0.3mm layer height to save time. In general :

  • Perimeters = 2
  • 5% rectilinear infill
  • Face Bottom requires supports under the eye sockets
