Use StandBy to view information at a distance while iPhone is charging

You can use StandBy to turn your iPhone into a bedside clock, a photo frame, a display for viewing widgets or Live Activities in full screen, and more.

- iPhone User Guide

StandBy mode was introduced during WWDC 2023 keynote and the presentation included photo concept of a MagSafe stand. This model is a replica of that concept.

The stand can hold an iPhone in the vertical orientation as well.

Compatibility

The model requires an AlzaPower WAC100S Wireless MagSafe Charger (Alza link).

I would say the stand (without the bracket) has a good chance of compatibility with other off-brand chargers. I've included a tiny test piece for that, read Printing instructions below.

The bracket is not compatible with the original Apple MagSafe Charger. If you want to use an original Apple MagSafe Charger, take a look at Standby Stand for Apple MagSafe.

Printing

I printed mine with PLA and 0.2mm layers. No supports.

40% infill is more than enough for the bracket and I went 60% infill for the stand, but you can make the stand infill higher if you want it to be heavier and more stable.

I have included a test piece that you can print out to test whether your charger's connector fits through the hole and whether the cable fits into the rift on the backside of the pole.

Assembly

Glue the bracket to the stand. Optionally - if you don't mind doing so - you can glue your charger directly to the stand and skip printing the bracket altogether.

Since I don't want to move the stand, I've decided to tape mine to the table with a strong (3M) double sided tape. But even without that, the stand is heavy enough to offer pretty good stability.

Edit after three months of use: The bracket around the charger is now less tight and the iPhone's magnet can pull the charger a bit out. I now recommend using a strong tape (or glue, if you don't mind it) to fix the charger inside the bracket.

Disassembly

The bracket fits quite snugly around the charger. It is possible that you won't be able to take it out without damaging either.

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

I've designed a custom bracket and I scaled the remixed stand up to fit the AlzaPower Charger cable and connector exactly.
