EDIT - Please see version 2.0 @ https://www.printables.com/model/1184649-johnny-5-comes-alive-v2
My unique take on the iconic Johnny 5, designed from the ground up to be 3D print-friendly. Unlike other models you might find scattered across various platforms, which require elaborate support structures that can be a hassle to manage, my model is crafted with the printer in mind, ensuring a smooth printing experience without sacrificing the essence of our beloved robot.
This model might not boast the intricate details of some versions out there, but it captures the spirit, form, and charisma of Johnny 5 in a way that’s easier to print than most.
Supports are needed between the lower track assembly and the back wheel, streamlining the post-printing work. The use of filament as dowels (along with glue) can be used connect the back and front of the head. Similarly, the upper eye shutters attach with filament pieces, easily secured with a dab of superglue. A simple snip with flush cutters removes any excess filament that protrudes from the top of the eye shutters. Lastly, you may use filament to color the eyes.
The entire model can print on the bed of a Mini (7x7x7), but I would suggest printing the forearms/hands separately, as I had issues with bed adhesion on these.
You would likely benefit from a smaller nozzle, as the image shown was printed on a .6mm with a .2mm step.
