IKEA BESTÅ magnetic lock

Child proof magnetic lock for IKEA BESTÅ line drawers and cabinets. Can be opened only using a strong magnet. No drilling required for cabinet installation, bolts are installed into existing holes. Drawer needs two holes in the back of the front panel.

Opening the lock needs a magnet attached with correct polarity. It is suggested to note the polarity on the door.

Provided key handle fits on a particular magnet salvaged from an old 3.5 inch hard-drive. Unfortunately, this will not fit anything else. Either use magnet without handler or modify the handle to accommodate your magnet.

Printed from ASA at 0.2mm layer height. Most probably PLA or PETG would also work.

Lock magnet - one per lock:

• strong rare earth magnet
• diameter: 10 mm
• height: 2.75 mm
• hole diameter: 3mm

Key magnet - one or two per household

• Strong rare earth magnet
• Like the one used in hard-drives. Volume 1 cubic centimeter or more.

Fasteners:

• Cabinet hook 5x16 countersink machine screw - two per lock
• Drawer hook 2.5x13 countersink screw - two per lock
• Lock body 3x20 countersink machine screw  - two per lock
