the size of the bioball can be changed as required.

bacteria settle reliably in the bioball. They don't clog.

for better adhesion of the first layer you can set one bottom layer, but at the expense of water flow in the bioballs

I've been using 3d printing bioballs in my aquarium external filter for about one year now and the aquarium is thriving, they work great.
