This is my take on a self-watering planter. Designed to have thick walls and a minimalist design this planter can suit any water-hungry plants such as a Peace Lily, Ivy, Ferns, Cat Palm (as seen in the photos), etc.

Printing Materials and settings

I've included a handy print config in the files, however, here are my recommended settings:

  • Material: PETG (Prusament or similar quality brand). Do not use PLA without a coating of epoxy conformal coating or similar such as this clear protective seal spray. Without a coating on PLA, the water will find its way out eventually. PETG is hydrophobic and shouldn't have this issue although a coating of a clear protective sealing spray won't do any harm.
  • Infill: 100% for watertight reassurance
  • Perimeters: 4 (for watertight printing)
  • Seam Position: Random - Important to ensure no areas of potential weakness in the water-tight design
  • Brim: A brim is useful to stop corner shrinking.

I also recommend printing with a lower z height than you might be used to. This is to ensure a water-tight print.

Sizes

The sizes of each design note 2 measurements. The first measure is the size of the planting area and all sides of the planting area are equal. The second measurement in brackets notes the exterior size on the shorter side, not the long side.

Example: 80(100)mm planter = plantersize(exteriorsize)mm planter.

The version in the photos is the 60(70)mm.

I'll update this with better measurements later

Happy Printing 😄
