The Camaro! The fastest V6 on rails.

Why?

The aim of The Camaro is to be an extremely rigid and lightweight 3d printed X axis mount that uses minimal screws, heatset inserts, and supports. Unleash the power of your V6 with The Camaro!

How?

The X axis belt attachment is on the top of the rail closest to the largest mass on the carriage, the extruder stepper. Very little moment force is created because of the width of the belt attachment to the carriage. Next, the V6 hotend is fastened directly to the 12H rail block using 4 35mm screws. This creates the most solid 3d printed mount possible for the V6 hotend, period.

What Else?

This Camaro actually reduces jams. The lowest part of the hotend cooler has abundant airflow focused on the lower half of the cooling fins closest to the heat source. The fan flows around most parts of the frame, keeping it cool enough to use PLA+ for mounting the hotend.  There is clearance to rotate your heater block to the back of the carriage giving 80% more viewing area. The cooling ducts are far away yet focused close to the base of the nozzle.

Will work on Ender 3 and clones such as GeeetechA10, Voxelab Aquila, etc.

  • MGN12H rail
  • Hotends:
    • E3d V6 or clone (You need to bend some fins)
    • E3d Revo 6 (You need to bend some fins)
    • Dragon HF & SF (No modifications should be necessary)
  • Extruders
    • Orbiter 1.5
    • Orbiter 2
  • Dual 5015 part fans
  • 40mm hotend fan

BOM:

  • 4x35mm M3screws-holds everything to rail carriage. This is the tricky part
  • 2x20mm M3screws-for attaching the fans.
  • 2x30mm M4 screws-hold the belt clamp on
  • 2x10mm M3 screws-attaches 40mm fan
  • 2x8mm M3 screws-holds orbiter down
  • only 6 m3 heatset inserts. 5.7mm long ones are supported. no cutting needed
  • 2 m4 nuts
  • You will need a longer belt than stock for now (future upgrade).

Future Plans:

  • ✔ Split the body of the carriage in to 2 parts to remove the need for supports
  • ✔ Widen the belt mounting area to increase rigidity
  • ✔ OrbiterV1.5 carriage variant
  • Touch probe mount
  • Cable management
  • Led mounts
  • Accelerometer mount
  • ✔ Hotend-fan-wash deflector (added V1.9)

I welcome all questions, comments and concerns. I'll get the STEP file up once I get things sorted out a little better. Stay tuned.
