Purpose/Design Focus
I was tired of taping the cables and especially the case opening key to the outside of the case. This slots over the Arion with the rubber bumper installed and provides storage for both the original USB A to C and C to C cables that came with the device. It also has a slot to store the key that is slightly angled for easier retrieval and provides a maximum depth so you don't lose the key in the slot.
The cable end holes may fit other usb cables but the ones that came from Asus have very think ends so your mileage may vary. The Fusion360 model is included and is parametric so you will need to remeasure your cable ends to adjust to fit. Model assumes that the USB-C connector ends are all the same but that could be changed if you have two different brand cables.
Print Settings
I printed with the following settings and material:
- 0.6mm Nozzle
- 10% infill
- 0.2mm layer height
- No support
- Inland PLA+
Modification Suggestions
If you decide to tweak the model, the following are some tips, though far from an exhaustive list:
- When I printed, the key_thickness parameter had to change as I modified the angle of insertion. The more vertical the slot, the thinner I was able to make it. The key itself is 0.65mm thick. Completely vertical I was able to make the slot 0.75mm thick but as I approached a 45deg angle I had to open the slot to 0.9mm. This is likely a printer limitation, or maybe a limitation based on layer height.
- All holes do not have an offset, I just adjust the dimensions as tolerances require.
- The key hole is angled to make grabbing it easier given the thickness of a my finger and the closeness to the case body. You could increase the angle but beyond a certain point the key hole will open into the body cavity and you'll be limited by the device itself. You can adjust further by change the depth to which the key slides into the slot but loosen the key hole thickness if you do because eventually you'll need pliers to remove it if it slots in too far.
