Sample Spool Arm with quick on/off for the Prusa Mini

Use the Arm only when you need it, as it slides on/off from a bracket that attaches with a T-Nut to the Z Axis.

Note: This Arm is designed for lighter sample spools, and NOT for the regular, heavy 1 kg spools.

This model uses no supports, no glue and has 3 pieces:

  1. Arm: Slides on/off to the Z-Bracket. When printing the Arm, use “Random” for seams. The circles printed way ugly with any other seam placement.
  2. Spindle: Slides on/off to the Arm. The Spindle is angled up a bit towards the Arm to keep the spool on the Spindle, as I made the end piece very low in height to accept any small spool.
  3. Z-Bracket: Attaches to the Z-Axis using a M4 T-Nut and Pan head screw. It can be positioned high or low on the 30-30, Z-Axis rail.
  • At a high position: Be aware that adding a spool with excessive weight could cause a stability issue where the Mini feels like it wants to tip over. I was also concerned that with the added weight that high up, a Live Z adjust would be needed. With the spool shown in the photo, it was not necessary and the printer was stable.
  • At a lower position: The diameter of your spool will determine how high up you have to go in order to clear your table top. Also, be aware of clearance needed for the filament sensor and the X-Axis motor cable. In the photo, the Arm is mounted at it's lowest possible point, just above my orange Hex grip.

My sample spools in the photos are at https://www.printables.com/@WillHarry_248619/models   If you use my spools the handles on the spool hubs must face away from the Arm. For reference: Large spool = 210mm Outer Dia. fully opened,  86 grams, less filament.                                        Smaller spool = 160mm Outer Dia.,  98 grams, less filament.
