Blink XT2 side mount for bookshelf

The model allows to install a Blink XT2 camera on a bookshelf and look in a direction parallel to the bookshelf, helpful in example if the camera monitors an hallway.

The model is composed by 4 elements that can be combined with no glue:

  1. bookshelf bracket, to be installed in a corner between shelfs
  2. blink camera sleeve, this slides around the camera once the back panel is removed.
  3.  a connector, attaching the bracket to the camera, designed to orientate the view adding a horizontal and vertical angle. Multiple choices are given.
  4. a plastic screw, to be used to secure the bracket to the shelf.

The bracket has been originally designed around an Ikea Billy bookshelf, with horizontal and vertical panels of about 20 mm.

For the connectors several options are provided, they differ for the horizontal and vertical angles that help to set the better view. The angles are highlighted in the filename: Connector_HXXVYY, where XX are the horizontal degree formed between the library and camera view, YY the vertical angle the camera looks down with respect to the shelf is installed. The connectors are also grouped by the vertical angle in folders.

Print instructions

Download the 4 required STL files, selecting the connector with the required angles. Orientate properly the objects and use supports where required:

  • the blink sleeve should be printed using supports to ensure the connector space is properly printed.
  • the bookshelf bracket should be orientated placing the side area on the bottom.
  • the screw should be oriented with the helix facing upward.
  • the connector should be placed on one of the sides, supports are required given the curvature.

The bracket is designed to applied on the right of a bookshelf, to be applied on the left the mirroring tool of the slicers can be used.

The use is mostly for interior and PLA should be ok, other materials can also fit.

Installation

After the print is done, remove carefully the required support material and:

  1. Open the camera and slide the sleeve in. The fit is designed to be tight and some friction may be experience, slide carefully pushing homogeneously the four corners.
  2. slide the connector into the camera sleeve.
  3. Place the bracket on the library and tighten the screw with your fingers, apply only a gentle pressure.
  4. Take the camera with the sleeve and connectors and slide into the bracket.
  5. Verify the camera orientation taking a new picture, eventually print a new connector.

Other sequence of work a may be ok :). Some glue can potentially be applied to secure the connector to the camera sleeve but not required.
