Note 3 VR Headset Dive cardboard

I have not improved upon the design, nor do I need to. You can purchase multiple headsets from pretty much any store you walk in to these days. At the time I designed this, there weren't any to purchase. They did have the cardboard kits around this time. I wanted a better headset.

It is good practice for printing if you still want to take a stab at it, but the cost to build one is exponentially more than building one. 1 lense costs more than the store bought headset and they come with controllers sometimes. The lenses I recommend are better than you would get in most headsets, and they are glass.

This is the 4th revision of this headset. I am still working out a few issues im having. It allows for adjustment in the focal length through two threaded thumb wheels. I am still trying to come up with an easy to adjust IPD setting. I am having issues with light leaking on the IPD design. This one is really good with keeping out the light and with preventing crosstalk in the eyes.

Let me know what issues you have with it and I will try to figure out how to fix them.

also, the lenses, the strap, foam and bolts are the only thing not 3d printed.

Instructions

I print all the large parts at 10% with one extra wall and at .2 layer height. This is with abs, haven't tried with pla.

They are a little less than $4 each at the moment. the shipping is more, so buy a few sets at once.

I used 2 6mm X 3 inch machined bolts and 4 nuts of matching size. I sunk the nuts in to the plastic... I will provide more info later for the build. I don't have too much time right now.

4 3mmx10mm hex botls to attach the plate for the head-strap swivel. again with countersunk bolts.

2 3mmX10MM to attach the swivel to the plate and a nut sunk in to the outer part of the swivel.

I had to carve some unwanted plastic from the eye glass retainer area for a good fit, but I will change this slightly to accommodate for printing issues.

I added a small amount of thin black cabinet foam from the hardware store to the inside of the case so that the phone sits snugly and doesn't move at all.

The foam on the face is high density seat foam from joann fabrics. I am working on how to cut this stuff, its the only non professional looking part of my build right now.

The plate in the front is missing the middle partly for the camera, I will be adding a small arduino acting as a keyboard and mouse to it and then adding several buttons for navigation while in the headset without having to remove the phone from the case. I have it mostly finished and will publish that after I get it looking the way I want.

this can be used for other devices than the note 3. But it is going to need more foam for holding the phone securely.
