This is my take on a crash barrier wall with an attached, chain link style fence. This was inspired by the Ninco fence product, but the end result is quite a bit different. It is designed to be able to bend easily in either direction with the flat side against the track. The clips are not part of the wall so that they can be printed on their side for better strength, as well as placed wherever works best, because sometimes a clip is just not in the right place for where you want to place the wall. Also, this means the only thing you need to adjust for other track types is the clip itself. As such, the wall and fence can be printed as is for any track, and the only piece that needs to change from track to track is the clip. I will work on adding different clips for different types of track in the near future.
I've also uploaded the STEP file so that it's easier to make any necessary changes or remixes of this design. Please heed the license.
The wall can be printed in whatever orientation suits you, but the clip should be printed in the orientation provided in the STL file. The fence should be printed flat with the chain link part set to zero top and bottom layers with a suitably "fence-like" infill pattern. I've included a 3MF file for PrusaSlicer so that you can see how I did it.
Update 01/24/2025 - Another year, another update, it seems. Oh, I missed 2022. Dangit! Well, this time it's new clips for Policar track and borders ('cus they're different!)
Update 01/10/2024 - Added “end cap” pieces for OXO_Cube's Dovetail wall remix, as well as a pre-arranged set of 4 walls with “mouse ears” to help hold them down while printing in order to ensure a successful print with no warping. To get the full length wall with dovetail joints, click the above thingiverse link.
Update 12/05/2023 - Added two new clips for Policar track, one that clips over the top of the track surface, and another that plugs into the slots on the side of the track. They should be printed in the provided orientation. The PolicarClipSide will need a small amount of support for the tab. The provided 3mf has supports set up already, just change to your printer model and filament choice. The side clip will work best with OXO_Cube's version that adds dovetail joins to the walls. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4884740
Update 4/30/2021 - Extended fence to the ends of the wall so that a continuous wall/fence does not have gaps between fences. I only made the version that requires manipulating the infill to look like fence, so I apologize to anyone who does not use Prusa Slicer, or a slicer that can open the 3MF format file I uploaded. I did upload the model, which has three parts, so you may be able to use another slicer to achieve the same effect.
Update 5/3/2020 - Added clips for Carrera, which have a thinner edge to clip to than Scalextric. I measured a variety of track and borders, and there is a significant variation between them all, but these seem to work well on most of them.
