Recently I have begun experimenting with printing with very thin layers, inspired by this model: https://www.printables.com/model/604437-night-dragon-lithophane-hueforge. I've printed it and a few others, when I realized that I have nothing to display it in. I've searched around, but didn't find anything that suited me, so I decided to design my own… My CAD skills are very basic, based on YouTube tutorials, I mostly use Tinkercad and lately onshape.
So this is it, a simple frame, which can be mounted on the wall or on a… let's call it desktop frame holder… (comment for a better name :)) There are 2 wall versions and 1 for the holder, a 0.5 mm thick light diffuser can be added, if the frame is printed with a darker filament. It helps divert more light towards the lithophane. Just glue it in place before installing LEDs. The "desktop" version is then alligned with the base and the holder using an “allignment plug” with a hole for cables. It can be fixed in place using 3x10 mm screws. Adding a drop or two of glue won't hurt either. You can install 2 rows of LEDs if you wish, but for me 1 is enough. The depth for the lithophane is 2 mm, thicker lithophanes will also fit.
The base is hollow and comes in 3 versions:
-blank (ideal for adding weight/improving stability)
-with plate (for names, inscriptions, etc…, can also add weight here) I've added a blank plate for customization
-with a backlit nameplate. This one needs supports. Also Base LED holder must be printed. It's just for easier installation of up to 5 LED strips, depending how bright you want it to be.
All of which have a small hole for the cables of the power supply and a hole for a standard switch. The bottom cover of the base is then screwed in place with 3x10 mm screws, or glue if you want to make it permanent.
This is my first upload, I hope you like it… any feedback is appreciated
