Pi Zero W GPS HAT Case

Introduction

I designed this print for the Pi Zero W/WH to be used with the MAX-M8Q GNSS HAT. This is so that both the HAT and the Pi are protected somewhat from the surroundings and looks a bit better.

On my setup I use it for an NTP server on my local network as the HAT is configured to discipline the time on the Pi via PPS (pulse per second) on the GPIO-18 pin. There’s a lengthy thread on the issues page of that repository that shows what needs to be done for the above mentioned HAT. I hope this helps anyone that needs it like it helped me.

Assembly

1. In the screw holes for the HAT fasten some M2.5 standoff screws with some nuts.
2. Attach the the HAT on the Pi Zero W/WH.
3. Take the small antenna wire that fastens to the HAT circuit board and unscrew the nut on the SMA connector, then push it through the hole from the inside. Now fasten it with the nut you unscrewed previously.
4. Connect the antenna wire to the HAT circuit board and gently lower it into the case.
5. Use some M2.5x8 screws to fasten it from below using the holes on the bottom of the case (make sure the holes all line up with each other).
6. Depending on how well you can reach it now insert the MicroSD card in its slot (a small tool like a tiny screwdriver might be necessary to push it all the way in).
7. Place the lid on top of the case and connect the power adapter and any Micro-USB to Ethernet adapter (with a little work the lid comes off the case, don't use excessive force).
8. Done!
