The Carriage House was one of 6 small buildings features in the Greenleaf Village set intended for a Christmas displa or train layout. The one I had from ~30 years ago was from stamped plywood (not laser cut) which was brittle and splintered as soon as I tried to pop the pieces out. So I decided to try to replicate the model on my Prusa. This is the first piece I completed.
I wanted to keep the same basic glue-up assembly process - that was always part of the fun of the Greenleaf models. I took some liberties with the dimensions, but they're pretty close. The original wooden kit included stamped paper trim to put around the windows and doors; I built those right into the model. Also of stamped paper were the cupola and cupola roof. Rather than print those as completed pieces, I tried to mimic those pieces by printing them at 0.4mm with a 0.2mm layer height - the bottom layer is solid, the second layer has score lines so you can fold into the necessary shape. I think that worked out nicely. I added a hole in the floor to place a small LED flicker candle. And finally, added a chamfer to the door so they could be glued on in an open position. I did not provide anything for simulating shingles on the roof; that might be something you can add yourself (maybe by gluing on actual tiny wooden shingles from the craft store??) Also in hindsight, I should have done something for the windows, maybe a little opaque acetate to simulate the glass.
I've included a photo of the original assembly instructions as a guide, but will certainly take that down if it presents any copyright issues. All the other parts should be different enough to not impinge on Greenleaf's rights.
Everything was printed with PLA and a 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, no supports. I found spotty results with generic super glue, but Aleen's Tacky glue worked wonders for the glue-up. Finished model is ~12cm (5 inches) to the top of the cupola roof, base in 8cm x 9cm. (Be sure to print 2 each of the WALL and ROOF pieces!)
Have fun with the model. If there's interest, I'll add the other five buildings (Schoolhouse, Tudor House, Store, Church and Victorian House) as I complete them.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
