The Voronoi patterns flash contest immediately made me think of insect wings, and so this dragonfly was born. This snap-fit model features posable ball-jointed wings and an elegant display stand.

Print Settings

Print files are divided into Body, Wings, and Stand. Just print one of each file. If you’ve printed any of my other jointed figures, you should be familiar with the recommended settings.

MaterialPLA*, PETG, ABS, or ASA
Layer height0.15mm (first layer 0.2mm)
Infill10-20% rectilinear
SupportsNone

*PLA is not recommended for the Body, because the sockets of the wing joints can break during assembly or become loose over time. However, it will work if it's all you have.

If you have issues with bed adhesion, try lowering your first layer speed and/or adding a brim.

Assembly

As always, assembly requires no glue or screws, just patience. :)

  1. Insert the Abdomen (tail) through the Thorax and into the Head.
  2. Snap the Wings into the sockets on the Thorax. The side that was touching the build plate should be facing up.
  3. Insert the Arm of the display stand through the Base (from below) and then into the Thorax.
  4. Pose the wings however you like!
