With some inspiration from a few other box designs I made my own semi-rugged box to contain my NanoVNA and TinySA together and keep them a little protected. I integrated a ledge for the tray to sit on which helps to hold the devices in place. The top of the tray sits against the inside of the lid to keep everything in place in the tray.

I used M2.5 hardware but I do want to re-design the hinges, although this works and I have other priorities.

I did add a number of holes to press fit M8x3 magnets that are arranged so they will line up with Honeycomb Storage Wall spacing. I found with just the 4 furthest magnets it holds in place well. I also created plugs for the HSW for press fit matching magnets. It centers up and holds well and is easy to remove.

The bottom of the box is a little thicker than it needed to be since I already had 1" foam. I laser cut the foam to fit the devices. I then sliced the cutouts down to fit under the devices and bring them right up to the top of the foam so there is not much movement. Since the screens are recessed and they are up against the tray they don't move around.

Printing
  • I've printed with both 0.20 and 0.28 layer height with no issues.
  • Print 2 latches
  • The internal ledge for the tray should not need supports.
  • Depending on your printer the screw holes may or may not need support.
