This is another Planetary Explorer Module modular vehicle, suitable for holding 3.75 inch / 1:18 scale action figures.

This vehicle is intended to be a planetary rover sort of vehicle. It features some oversized, oddly shaped wheels, which do turn, and due to their weirdness they roll in a way that's hard to explain but cool to see! They feature grooves in the wheels to accommodate multiple rubber bands for traction. That's so you don't need rubber tires.

There are 3 kinds of seats, front, middle and back, and they are compatible with other Planetary Explorer Modules spaceships and vehicles. Seats have a through-hole to accommodate future electrical wiring. Each seat has a canopy to protect the rider as they explore. The front seat canopy has a pivot joint so it can open and close. Every seat has a rubber band seat belt!

Some of the canopies have small 5.0 mm holes to connect accessories such as antennas, laser canons, etc. - see https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6244455!

I replaced the original wheel base with one that you can combine to make it as wide as you want. Provided axles for double and triple-wide for now.

I also added some alternative wheels which are a bit smaller.

The different parts plug in to each other, allowing for many different possible combinations, if you print a few of them. Will try to add a few photos showing some alternatives. Does not require any glue, screws or tools to assemble.

If you need some vintage figures to put in your ship, there are some here: https://www.petesactionfigures.com Or you can print yourself some figures from other designs of mine here on thingiverse!

The different parts all use the "pla snap connector e" that I have also posted separately here to thingiverse. You can also design your own modules that plug in to these, if you use the connector, they will connect! Please let me know, I would love to see them if you make some!

I have one of these up for sale here: https://www.petesactionfigures.com/product/slanweelz-action-figure-transport-planetary-explorer-modules

Enjoy!

Notes:

Need to print 4 wheels, 2 axle bases, and 2 axles (to match the pictures). The axle bases have front and rear connectors to allow multiple, so you could actually print as many as you want and just have more wheels, 6 wheels, 8 wheels, 10 wheels, it's up to you! A small piece of PLA filament is needed for the front seat canopy joint.

I replaced the original wheel base with one that you can combine to make it as wide as you want. Provided axles for double and triple-wide for now.

I printed the base rotated by 90 degrees so that the holes are vertical, which makes them more uniform than if they were horizontal.

Post-Printing

The wheel axles fit into the wheels, but can be superglued if desired so they don't come apart. Not gluing them allows the wheels to be rearranged again and again, but they may come apart if the vehicle crashes into something.

When combining multiple bases horizontally, you only need 1 shim which basically makes the side with the protruding connectors flush so the wheels can spin easily.

How I Designed This

Used Tinkercad, still!
