PDF

A working wind turbine model with all the features needed for educational use, easy to print!

Features:

  • Pitch control: Twist one blade and the other blades move accordingly
  • Twist+Taper of the blades
  • Blades with asymmetric profile

Bill of Materials:

  • 3 x M2 threaded brass heat insers
  • 3 x M2 20 mm screws

Printing directions:

Easy to print. For a small printer (Like Prusa Mini) you'll have to split the tower. Projects for optimal printing are attached.

  • No supports needed.
  • all gears should be printed with ~0.15 mm layer height and 100% infill
  • all parts except the tower at ~0.2 mm layer height with ~20% infill
  • Tower can be printed quickly and with coarse layer height
  • the blade and blade gears are needed 3x, everything else 1x

How to assemble:

  1. Install three M2 brass heat inserts in hub-rear
  2. Superglue the blade-gear into the holes in the blade (check for fit first, then put the super glue in the hole on the blade, not on the gear)
  3. Superglue the nacelle into the tower (again, check for fit and then glue on the tower part, not on the nacelle)
  4. Make sure the glue is dry!
  5. Put the assembled blades with the gears into the recesses on hub-rear, makes sure the blades are aligned
  6. Set the hub-gear into hub-front with the teeth visible, insert M2 screws into hub-front.
  7. Make sure hub-gear is turning freely in hub-front. Sand down and lubricate as needed.
  8. Put hub-gear and hub-front together on the hub-rear and blade assembly, make sure the hub-gear aligns with the gears on the blades properly
  9. Screw hub-front and hub-rear with the other parts sandwiched inside together (see the second picture, it shows the assembly). Screw until both parts are snug together, then try and wiggle the blades and loosen the screws evenly until the pitch control works nicely. You can add lubricant here to make the mechanism go more smoothly.
  10. Use axis to screw the assembled fan into the tower.
