Hexagonal Magnetic Knife Block/ Tool holder(Customizable and Parametric) Or can be used for anything magnetic. Why stop at knifes? Spoons, Spatulas, Scissors, Wine openers, Heck put wrenches or Even a hammer… Well a Small Hammer. If its magnetic you can store it there.
This Magnetic Knife holder has a customizable layout. Based off proven wood working design. But instead of 2 magnets, I made it THREE! For extra hold. Each tile has different sides each having holes for either 3m bolts or m3 heat inserts. Allowing a custom layout. Every tile has 3 imbedded magnets to hold the heaviest of knifes. (Thought I suggest using 2 tiles for those) The M3 inserts is on the bottom 3 sides. And there are wall mounts that can be glue into the back of tiles. and Its all parametric. So you can change all the magnet sizes or just put in thicker magnets for stronger pull.
What you need for each tile:
M3x 4.6mm brass heated Inserts
M3 bolts preferable 8mm
2- 30x10x3mm Powerful Neodymium Bar Magnets N47 or higher
1- 60x10x3mm Powerful Neodymium Bar Magnets N47 or higher
Files are annotated as TOP and BTM for top side and bottom side and L-C-R for Left, Center and Right hole placement. And I am only Including the only right handed origination. IF You need the Left handed tile Just mirror the right handed tile that matches the left handed tile that you need. (Chem majors will appreciate this, or get triggered)
The bottom is the larger hole which the brass inserts are heat pressed into. the top holes are for the screws. you should alternate the poles of the magnets. this supposedly makes the strongest pull.
If you are printing in .2mm layer height. I would suggest about layer 20 to pause the print and insert the magnets. Let me know if you are having any issues with the tolerances. So I can make adjustments.
For hanging I suggest 1 hanger every 3-5 tiles. Depending on your layout and weight of the knifes/ tools.
Thanks and remember a Falling knife has no handle but with this you shouldn't worry about falling knifes.
