Camping! A time to rest and enjoy the outdoors, not a time to be hammering steel pegs into hard ground like a cave person.

Introducing the Hammerless Tent Peg!

The Hammerless Tent Peg uses a 10mm coach screw for gripping hard soil or rocky ground where conventional tent pegs would struggle. A standard 10mm coach screw has a 17mm hex head and can be bought in a range of lengths. I recommend 150mm - 200mm in length for optimal grip. A standard 10mm ID (Inner Diameter) flat washer can be placed between the coach screw head and the 3D printed part to distribute forces from the head onto the part. An 8mm diameter O-ring can be pulled over the screw up to the 3D printed part to keep it from falling off while handling the peg. I recommend using O-rings with a thickness between 2.5mm and 3mm to prevent them from snapping.

Printing:

  • I recommend PETG filament as this will increase impact resistance during use.
  • Print the parts with the flat side on the print bed.
  • Don't use supports.
  • 0.4mm Nozzle: Wall line count = 4
  • 0.6mm Nozzle: Wall line count = 3
  • infill: 95%

Materials:

  • 3D printed Tent Peg x 1
  • 10x150mm Coach screw x1
  • 10mm ID flat washer x 1
  • 8mm D O-ring x 1

Assembly:

  1. Place the coach screw on a table with the sharp end showing up.
  2. Place the washer over the screw.
  3. Place the 3D printed part over the screw with the orientation like in the pictures provided.
  4. Place the O-ring on top of the screw and screw it down with your hand until it touches the 3D printed part.
  5. Throw away your hammer.
