When printing the beautiful original model by schiko in ASA, I experienced issues with layer separation - perhaps due to the cold environment, which prevented the build volume to heat up sufficiently. Nonetheless, I decided to do some minor changes to reduce the stress on the model corners due to shrinkage - namely a different wall slot arrangement and reinforced corner pillars - which turned out to work very well for me!
If you don't have an actively heated build volume and expect some degree of warping/shrinking, I recommend you to give this remix a shot - there is no disadvantage compared to the original one, as far as I can tell.
The functionality is still the same as for the original model and all the original recommendations by schiko hold up:
These boxes fit exactly onto the space over the bearings of the Sunlu S4 filament dryer.
Simply dry your desiccant / silica gel at 70°C for a few hours. I recommend two boxes because air flow is better the less each box is filled.
It's mandatory to use a high temperature filament like ABS, ASA, PC or similar! PETG and PLA will not work. I tested PETG and the bottom deformed while using.
The holes/slots are 0.8mm wide.
No support needed. I used 3 walls and 4 top/bottom layers to get it stronger.
Update 06.07.2024: Upon request, I've added versions with reduced height. Silica gel dries best in thin layers, so for this purpose the full height version is somewhat uneconomical in terms of filament consumption and printing time. (I still like the full height version for drying prints, e.g. after wet sanding).
The author remixed this model.
Modified the wall slot orientation from horizontal to interlaced vertical, aimed at minimizing tensile stress and warping caused by shrinkage. This adjustment is expected to prevent layer separation at the corners. Additionally, reinforcement has been added to the corner pillars for enhanced stability.
Also, I added versions with reduced height.
