These checkers are designed to have as little material as possible between the magnets and the checker board.  The print stops so that magnets can be inserted before the last two layers are printed.

For extra strength, I used two rare earth magnets per checker.  The print file is for 15 checkers of one color.  In total, you would print 30 checkers (two colors) and would need 60 magnets.

I used magnets from Lee Valley.  They are item number 99K3800 and come in packages of 10 ea.  The magnets are 1/8" x 1/8"

When you insert the magnets, make sure they are all pointing the same way so the pieces snap together the right way.  I put them all in one stack and made sure to always insert the same way so they all stack the same (magnet north and south poles facing the same way in all pieces).  To insert, put two in then move the magnet stack sideways to separate the magnets.  I pushed down on each one with a small hex key to make sure they were all the way down.  Careful not to pull them back out!  LOL.  A non-magnetic rod would probably be a better option for making sure they are all the way down. :)

Also, I printed with the crown side down to have shorter bridge distances on the bed side.

I hope you enjoy!
