This is a trem stopper for a guitar equipped with a floating tremolo bridge. This device simply “stops” the action of pulling up on the tremolo bar, making the strings sharper in pitch. This also increases tuning stability. For example, breaking a string will not cause the other 5 to go out of tune and palm muting the strings near the bridge will not cause the notes to pull sharp.

The hardware required is an M4x6x6 or similar heat set insert, an M4 Set Screw or Bolt long enough to be fully threaded into the insert and nut while sticking out on both ends, an M4 Nut, and a Wood Screw that has a head 3mm  or greater in diameter and 10mm-15mm in length. Fine threads are preferred as to not seriously tear into the tonewood of the guitar. In the photos, I printed a basic M4 nut simply because I did not feel like driving 20 minutes to the hardware store to get one, and the screw I used was a retaining screw from an old set of guitar tuners that I previously replaced.

I tried to make this model as short as possible while retaining enough rigidity to be functional.

Printed from PLA 95% infill. Although PETG would arguably be better, I did not want to change the spool on my K1 for such a small piece. I have had this installed in my PRS SE Custom 24 for 3 months with no issues whatsoever.

TO INSTALL

  1. Place piece with set screw threaded into and sticking out of the insert close enough to the tremolo block so that the screw is touching (NOT pushing on) the block.
  2. Screw down into the body tight enough so that it does not move but not so tight that the plastic splits.
  3. Push down on the tremolo bar to install the nut

OPTIONAL: Add a small piece of electrical tape or a rubber cap to the end of the screw if there is any buzzing coming from the back cavity of the guitar

You can alternatively install the nut before screwing down the stopper, but it may be harder to adjust when completely installed.

Good luck!
