17/02/2024: I'm releasing a new shock absorber that uses a TPU spring. It should mount on the UNIMOG RC.
10/02/24: I added a “crawler” gearbox so together with its limited slip differentials the truck should have better off-road capabilities. You can find it here. It can replace the stock automatic 2 speed gearbox. Whereas the auto GBX has a 1.7 to 1 reduction in low gear, this crawler GBX is providing a 6 to 1 reduction. So overall between the 1st stage gearbox , the differentials, the overall reduction is 65 to 1 vs 19 to 1 previously in low gear.
01/02/24: the cabin is now available.
29/01/24: I started printing the cabin. I'll be releasing subsets as I am able to check them and if it makes sense to release them as separate models; the grill (1st such part) is here. In the meantime, I'll post some pictures of the progress …
12/01/24: The cabin picture is a bit of a teaser ! Still a lot of work to do before I can release it!
------------------------------------------------------------------
So after a lot of work on the automatic 2 speed gearbox, I finally achieved mounting the whole truck and did a few runs in my shop.
The design is BIG and I didn't really count the number of parts (so lets say a few hundred !) If you plan to build it you will need a lot of M3 screws and a bunch of ball bearings:
(Or you can use the fake ones made of PLA I'm providing)
RC stuff used:
As usual everything that can be plastic is … plastic and printed ! The caveat here is that as everything is plastic it is obviously more fragile than commercially available models where gearboxes , axles, shock absorbers etc. are made of metal. So treat it kindly !
Most of the design is PLA, tires and 2 little parts in the auto GBX are TPU.
I'm providing all the necessary print files and the STL in case you want a different printing setup.
Mounting tips / printing tips :
For the chassis assembly look at the pictures; please note that the auto GBX support has changed since the pictures were taken (parts with 2 different grey filaments)
Most of the sub assemblies have been released as separate models so I'm giving the links to those models and usually there are pictures that will help you perform the assembly.
Here is a list of links to the subsets I had previously released:
ALWAYS USE THE PRINT FILES AND STL from the full design (some parts may have changed).
For the limited slip differentials please see here and here.
For the portal axles see here.
For the auto gearbox see here.
For the 1st stage gearbox see here.
Driveshafts see here and here. The transmission shafts are the longer ones (the slide yoke are the bigger ones, while the yokes , cross and pins are the same).
For shock absorbers see here. The M3 screw has been replaced by a pin since my RCCAR V2.
For the tires please use a lot of craft / paper glue to protect your buildplate.
You should mount the wheels/tires last. You can block rotation while attaching the wheels by holding the driveshaft. Do not over tighten the screw so the wheel is free. This is also true for the screws that hold suspension arms or the shock absorbers.
------------------------
I retain my naming convention for parts:
XXXnn-kk-name
XXX = sub assembly
nn part number within this assembly
kk number of instances needed in one single instance of the sub assembly
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
