I have tried printing several designs for modular storage systems over the years and always found 1 or 2 things I didn't like with each system. I finally decided a year ago to design my own system and after many revisions I finally have something I feel I can share with everyone. I wanted it to be modular and based on a standard 1x1 “block”. With that in mind I came up with a system that can be customized utilizing the various “block" sizes of 1x1, 1x2 and 1x3. I also included feet for the system as well as trays that can attach to the top level of drawers. I put “stop blocks” in the shells to stop the drawers from falling out if pulled too far (you wouldn't believe how many times I spilled a drawer full of screws all over my workbench with the other systems I printed!).
Everything is connected using a “Bowtie” style clip. For the connection points not being used I designed a Blank Clip to fill in the empty connection points which gives a more finished look to the system.
You can make your own labels for the drawers out of cardboard or heavy paper stock but I spent a bit of time and designed some that I printed out using multi colours which look pretty sharp. (I included them here and plan to add more as I need them for my system).
I found the clips to be the hardest parts to print. If I used a textured steel print plate and used PETG filament with a low nozzle temperature (to avoid stringing) I got better results.
I printed everything with PETG using .2mm layer hight and no supports.
If you do end up using this print I hope you find the design useful and functional and please provide any feedback on ways to improve the system.
Enjoy!
