This is a super-easy 2-piece fabric tape wind-up device for 60" and 120" flat measuring tapes.
I got tired of the mess and losing the rubber band that held mine together. Plus, I wanted something that I could wind up when I was done with it.
This model will work for 60" and 120" [150cm/300cm] tapes, let me know if you need a different length version I do not show here.
The spool piece requires supports, and the .3mf file will help you. Organic supports work like a dream using the “smart fill” option in the organic support popup. If you have questions about these, I can make some recommendations but there are so many variables (material; printer; environment; settings) it will be difficult--but I can try.
Recommending 0.15 layer height for best quality and smoothness. See the .3mf file.
To use, Insert the fabric tape end into the spool slot, then into the outside cylinder. They will snap together. Then wind up using the spool post either direction you choose (Cw or Ccw).
To release the spool, push the spool out through one of the openings in the rear.
**Update 1/6/24
- Added 2 more versions for thicker (broader/taller) tape, with +3 and +5mm heights.
- The file Tape Measure Winder.stl will allow for a 16.2mm wide tape, and then 3 and 5 more mm for the other files, respectively.
**Update 2/1/24
- Improved fitment to eliminate slight rocking and looseness feel; eliminated “tight fitting” model (all versions will have same fitment, which has now been improved)
- Added 120" (300cm) version, and with wider tape versions +3 and +5mm widths.
**Update 2/4/24
-Added ‘Tape Lock’ feature to all model versions after testing. This will hold the tape and keep it from winding back onto the spool.
