When installing some dimmer switches in my house, I found some shoddy work from a prior renovation. I was left with a mangled old work box with no good drywall for the fastening ears to grab onto.
The face of the drywall is still in okay shape, but the back side is blown out around the edge with the corners ripped out. It is not to the point the damage is visible past the switch plate cover and a drywall patch was way more work than I wanted to do at the time.
So here is my solution, a printed brace meant to glue onto the backside of the wall and give something solid for the box to clamp to. This version is made for 3/8" drywall.
Can be printed as-is with no supports at .3mm layer height. PETG is probably the best call since it will see some clamping forces.
