This design is a remix of Magne's “Weekclock with planetary gear". I had some issues with the original design files (especially it did not fit my clockworks…), so I made some modifications and decided to publish the result here.
The only this I did not alter from the original design are the planet gears. Not that you can still use the clockfaces from the original design and do not need to change to this design.
I have printed all parts in PETG, but PLA should also work fine. I have provided the STL files and the 3mf files containing all the settings. Also there are the gcode files for the MK3s. Here are some hints for slicing and printing the parts:
![]() | base: 0.3mm layer height |
![]() | planetgear: 0.3mm layer height - I recommend doing a color change when arriving at the smaller gear. You have to print 3 of these. |
![]() | sungear: 0.3mm layer height |
![]() | clockface_german / clockface_english: Two color print with color change after two layers (first black, then color). I have used the variable layer height feature which allowed a print with 0.2mm+0.15mm layer height for the bottom layers and 0.3mm after the color change. Note that the two cylinders are "smear towers". I use them for color change prints to get a cleaner print. Note that you can also print clockfaces from the origional design instead. |
Assembling the clock is straightforward. Use a clockwork that comes with a hanger. Mine is a standard one I got from Amazon and it looks like this:
The length of the thread is not critical, as you can place washers or similar underneath.
Also you will need 3pcs 608 ball bearings for the planet gears.
The base has been implemented from scratch. The other parts have be modded from the original design by importing them in OpenSCAD. Only the planet gear is not altered. I have provided the source code for download, so you can adjust the design to your needs.
If you like this design, then please leave a like and also post a photo in the comments. Also check out my other designs.
