WORK IN PROGRESS
Current version: v1.1 (see changelog below)
Gunstock for PS5 PSVR2 controllers. As I was searching for gunstock, nothing caught my eye except VaderOne. It looks great and it's small but if I buy one I can't make my modifications without creating key components on my own. So here we are, after many trials and errors I got myself V.1 of my gunstock. I feel it would be great to share this design as it can be improved and maybe add accessories or features I didn't think of. Hope you like it! Any feedback will be welcomed!
Ingredients:
Magnets:
All magnets are in the fittment phase. My design is based on using magnets with opposite polarity to hide the mounting screw. All magnets are offset by 0.2mm from the surface, as this will prevent it from getting hit while connecting and eventually cracking.
Magnet thickness should be picked by preference. Gunstock is designed to hold up to 5mm thick magnets in the hinge and front grip. As for now, I prefer 5mm magnets on the front grip and 3mm magnets on a hinge. Feel free to experiment. In the files, you will find spacers for magnets.
Aluminum profile length:
Needs to be tested and chosen personally. I find a 200mm long profile to fit me pretty well. Buy more and experiment with different lengths. The butt of the stock has room to be aligned with a magnet on the front grip even if the longer profile is used.
Tape:
Controller mounts are designed with a 0.1mm offset. It is meant to use rubber-like tape or fabric tape for grip between surfaces and limit the chance of crushing or scratching controller housing. Tape must be applied for all surfaces that contact controllers directly.
Printing:
I added new models for M3 and M4 versions of screws for controller mounts and set screw of R controller.
I printed it with PLA with a 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer, 25% infill, and 3 perimeters. Fill free to experiment.
Be sure to print with the right supports! I will attach my .3mf files as an example. (Prusa MK3S with MMU2)
Parts need some trimming. I used to always drill holes for passthrough bolts and tap holes where threads should go (especially if the hole is splitting across layers - this way it is safer).
The right controller mount has an embedded brim for the Picatinny rail - needs to be trimmed off.
Printing time: 13h40m
Material (with supports): 161,53g
Controllers:
Controllers are aligned in what I feel is a pretty ergonomic setup. The right controller is tilted 13 degrees upward and 3 degrees to de left. The Left controller is tilted 10 degrees to the right and offset from the R controller by 15mm.
IMPORTANT:
Mounts for controllers are designed to be mounted flush with the line on the controller shell. It is important due to tracking LEDs in the controller and alignment of the mounts.
I can provide editable 3D files (SolidWorks is my main CAD).
