This year, we decided to give custom chocolate Christmas coins to everyone for Christmas.

Prints nicely in Prusament PLA with 0.1mm layer height and 0.4mm nozzle. Use food grade Silicone in case you want to make chocolate molds. Use sequential printing for better results.

To customize, modify the SVG file and update the SVG file in the 3mf in PrusaSlicer. The font used is Ubuntu Title, before you can use it in for example Inkscape to modify the SVG file you will need to install it on your system. https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/ubuntu-title

You will need a recent version 2.7+ of PrusaSlicer for the SVG import feature. 10 coins or 4 in sequential mode fit on the build plate of a Prusa MK4.

For the silicone molding, vibration helps to get the air bubbles out. We found roughly 14g of silicone to be ideal for 1 coin. Our silicone supports faster hardening at temperatures up to 60C, since I printed in PLA, I set the oven to 50C to prevent warping of the mold.

The chocolate needs to be tempered (heat to 45-50C, cool down to 26C, heat up again to 32C) to prevent chocolate bloom. We used a pencil and silicone spatula to get the chocolate into the smaller letters of the coins.

For mass production, I created a shell script to export the SVG in the correct format for import in PrusaSlicer. This cli can be used on Linux

python3 export_coin.py inkscape "christmas coin.svg" "coin_out.svg" "0:0:77.459:77.459"
