UPDATE 2025-03-11: A little Disclamer

In case that is not already obvious to you – do NOT try to use this tool with significant force or the layers will sheer off. It will not withstand significant force unless you print it our of metal or other high strenght materials.

UPDATE 2024-03-02: two new Versions with Handle

For ease of use, I have added two versions with a Handle. There is one with a 12.5mm recess in order to fit over the axle nut directly and a slightly more stiffer version with no recess.

I relaxed / changed my print settings and can confirm that it works very well for me in PLA with 0.16mm layer height, 6 outter walls and top and bottom layer minimum 1.5mm, 15% infill.

I also flipped the model to the correct side teeth facing upwards as suggested below.

Print time is approx. 50mins on my P1S.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The model was designed to tighten a chainring on my home trainer Garmin Tracx by hand. Its not designed for tightening with tools, however I can add a hexnut instead the grip, if requested.

I printed this tool in ASA with following parameters:

  • 4 wall perimeters
  • 6 top and 6 bottom layers
  • 15% infill (adaptive cubic)
  • Arachne generator for walls

on my P1S with 0.4mm nozzle and 0.20mm Layer height.

The model prints in 8m42s, weights 3.31 gramms and costs about 7 cents.
