This is a vapor filter for the exhaust port of common vacuum pumps. It appears to reduce expelled oil vapor by > 95%. Its been a huge help at reducing a little noise and migration of oil into the shop environment.
This was designed to fit a U.S. General 2 stage 3CFM vacuum pump #66466. It should fit any pump that has a similar exhaust fitting with a 16mm stem OD and > 12.7mm ID.
Native SolidWorks 2023 assembly model included, has all the parts virtual to the assembly and should be easily modifiable for other pumps/applications. Also included are .step and .stl formats.
To assemble apply superglue or epoxy to the 4 contact points on the filter element support and insert to the bottom of the filter housing. Once dry, pack the filter housing full of cotton balls and snap the filter cap on.
This should be a snug fit onto the stem of the pump to keep it in place.
I printed this out of PLA and has held up just fine with the pump oils. I imagine PETG would do quite well also. Its designed with an inner funnel so that collected oil can migrate back down into the pump reservoir. After nearly 100 hours on my pump over the last 2 years, I've not had to replace the cotton balls. Just normal oil change maintenance.
No supports needed.
