GB Interceptor Case

When I bought my GB Interceptor from Aliexpress it came with a case that is very close to the design of Angry Helder. When I tried to turn on my Gameboy (DMG) I noticed, that there is very litle space to reach the on/off switch. Since I also did not like the writing on the case, I was sure I had to do my own design.

The design is inspired by the original game-cartridges. It gives access to both the “mode” and “program” buttons. There is also more space to reach the on/off switch.

#HowTo Print

The front of the case should be printed standing up with the cartridge-slot facing the build-plate. The wrinting should be upside down. Use organic supports, like shown on the pictures.

Erverything else, like the back, buttons and lightpipe should be printed with the largest flat side on the build-plate. You only need to print one of the files for the back. Choose one depending on whether you want to see the LEDs or not.

The material is your choice. I just used PLA.

Only the lightpipe is somewhat special. Transparent filament is necessary to transmit the light. If you don't have any, don't print it an leave the hole or use the back without a hole.

#HowTo Assemble

Like the original design this case needs 3x M2.5 heat-set threaded inserts (4mm length & 3.5mm outer diameter) and 3x M2.5x4 screws with a countersunk head.

1. Carefully remove all of the support material. Make shure also clear the screw-holes.
2. Use a hot soldering iron to press the threaded inserts into the back of the case.
3. If you have printed the lightpipe: You may not glue into its hole in the back. Position the side, where the cylinders are seperate, facing inside the case.
4. Place the prints for the buttons into their corresponding holes in the back of the case. The “mode”-button is the bigger one. It belongs in the hole close to the corner and near the cartridge-slot. The other one is shorter, since it is ment to be flush with the case.
5. Place the PCB of your GB Interceptor on the pegs in the front of the case.
6. Turn the front of the case around and place it on the back of the case, while making shure, that the PCB does not fall down.
7. If everything aligns and the gaps between the halves of the case are only small, screw them together with the M2.5 screws. Otherwise something might need to be realigned.

I used AngryHelder's design as a base. The front is now a single piece and was given a design inspired by the original game-cartridges. The back has now a hole that allows to see the status LEDs.
