The altitude adjustment screw on my red dot finder snapped. Instead of buying a replacement screw, I decided to redesign the base frome scratch. The new base design has an integrated 65 deg standard finderscope dovetail, it also has two 7.6 mm holes to accept 8mm-long M6 heatset inserts to bolt on a metal dovetail bar.

You need 2 M3 hex nuts, 1 M3 square nut(~2.3mm standard thickness, not those thin ones used on prusa printers), 2 M3x25 screws, several 6mm diameter washers and loctite. The three springs are reused, so no need to source them separately.

Assembly

Step 1.

Insert the square nut into the AZ pin, turn the M3x25 screw till it's roughly centered. Press the spring, a washer onto the screw from the other side, then secure them with a hex nut. You need to apply some loctite to prevent the nut from coming loose. DON'T overtighten the nut, you only need to make sure the nut is on there, and it can still turn once loctite is set.

Step 2.

Put the two thick springs in their holes, you can put washers underneath them to spread the load.

Step 3.

Screw the base onto the finder with the origional screw. Drop the slider in its slot.

Step 4.

Another M3x25 screw here. And done.

Print Instructions

0.15mm layer height. The AZ pin needs to be strong, use more perimeters to make sure it's solid. The base also needs to be stronger, especially if you do intend to use the integrated dovetail. I used 4 perimeters, 8 bottom layers, 12 top layers, 20% infill. No support required.
