Another sign I whipped up quickly that people might enjoy. I have created this classic street sign for printing in 2 colours, and this can be done with a single extruder.

I designed this basic model from scratch and have included the F3D and STEP files to allow for remixing and modification. It should also be fairly simple to scale if you wish.

How to print with a single extruder

Once loaded into the slicer and flipped so the letters are facing down against the build plate, you can split the model into it's individual pieces. Then it is important not to move anything!

I remove the body of the sign to slice the red octagon (and islands) first. Then I bring back the body (ctrl + z) and remove the octagon + islands. I change the Z lift setting to 1mm to allow the nozzle to hop over the existing print and slice. The first print (Red Octagon + Islands) takes place, then the filament colour is changed. The second print then takes place over the top of the first print.

I had to manually add in the line of gcode “G1 Z1.2 F720” for the second print immediately after the intro line on my MK3S+ as the nozzle wants to travel to the start of the print before it starts to use the Z lift function. The attached print files for a MK3S+ takes this into account and has the additional line of gcode already added after the intro line.

Also, I performed this print on a MK3S+ as it uses the Super PINDA sensor instead of the MK4's loadcell which would affect the already-printed sections.

More signs to come in future.
