This makes a great gift! Wear this on days when you can feel boredom coming on and relieve tension by having a spinning fidget toy always within easy reach. Or wear the fused version when you want the style without the temptation. It also makes an easy conversation piece at parties or while talking with relatives' children. Matching earrings can also be printed to complete the look!

Instructions for spinning pendant

Step 0: Print the pendant base, top, and pin. Remove any supports and excess plastic from the pieces and examine them for print quality. Unless you rescaled the pendant to a much larger size, it should print successfully without any supports. Reprint any pieces that are not satisfactory.

Step 1: Check the parts for fit. Insert the pin into the top and then into the base. Spin the top around the pin and watch for detachment from the base.

Troubleshooting fit:

  • If the pin fits slightly loose into the base, it's recommended you use cyanoacrylate glue (Super Glue) or similar to secure it. Another option is to rescale the pin in the slicer in the X and Y dimensions to a larger size (recommended to start with 100.5%) and try re-printing the pin.
  • If the pin won't fit in the base, try lightly sanding the pin. Another option is to rescale the pin in the X and Y dimensions in the slicer (recommended to start with 99.5%) and try re-printing the pin.
  • If the top of the pendant doesn't spin well, try lightly sanding the hole, lightly sanding the pin or both. If the bottom of the top or the top of the base feel particularly rough, you may also want to lightly sand them. A small amount of lubricant many also help. In the worst case, you may want to rescale the top in the slicer in the X and Y dimensions (recommended to start with 101%) and try re-printing the top. You can also try rescaling the pin in the slicer in the Z dimension (recommended to start with 105%) and re-print it.

Step 2: If the parts fit securely, place the pendant on an appropriate chain and enjoy wearing your new creation!

Recommendations for gluing the pin (if desired)

Step 0: Put on gloves. It's not fun to get cyanoacrylate glue on your hands.

Step 1: With the pin inserted into the top, dab a small amount of glue on just the tip of the pin. I recommend using Super Glue Gel because it's easy to get a small amount on the tip without any dripping. It should not be necessary to coat the pin with glue.

Step 2: Insert the pin into the base. Press the pin firmly into the base for 30-60 seconds while the glue sets.

Step 3: During those 30-60 seconds while the glue is setting, spin the top. This will prevent the top from getting stuck to the base from a small amount of stray glue. If the top gets stuck anyway, you probably used too much glue and may have to reprint.

Step 4: Recommended to let the pendant sit overnight before wearing. This will allow the glue to fully dry and decreases the risk of the pin coming loose later.

Happy Printing!
