I got bored closing the blinds in the evening and opening them in the morning so I created a smart blind controlled via homeassistant using ESPHome. They had to be as cheap as possible and also reliable. That is why I went with a 180° servo instead of a continuous one. You can use continuous but I just didn't want to deal with timings and I wanted to have readings about the tilt of the blinds. The model uses only two screws which replace the ones already on the window in the thing in which the string balls are fixed.

Once assembled, the servo fits perfectly into the main part and is secured by a thin printed strip that wraps around and clicks into place. I unsoldered the original cable from the servo and soldered a 3x0.5mm copper wire to it, shortening it as needed.

Part list of absolute necessary parts for 3 windows:

  • 1x ESP32 DEVKIT V1
  • 3x MG995 Servo
  • 1x 5V 2,5A Power Supply (min. 2A)
  • 2x WAGO 221 5 Way
  • 1x 3 chocolate connector
  • 1x Electrical instalation box
  • 6x Screws (Same size as the ones on the window but longer)
  • Strong duble sided tabe or screws for the box
  • 3 Core copper cable (I used overkill 3x0.5mm)

I will provide schematics or more details if needed. Just leave a comment.
