Edit: If you happen to print one, please share a make! :)

Simple schematic depiction of a muscle sarcomere for teaching. Dimensions in the picture are roughly 60cm x 30cm. There is the option to screw the actin onto a wooden board with 4mm screws instead of gluing it. The screws can be hidden by a cap.

This was modelled for an exhibition of the excellence cluster ‘physics of life’ at the Technische Universität Dresden. The exhibition can be seen at the Technische Sammlungen Dresden until May 2024.

Printing:

Parts:

  • 48x Actin
  • 4x thick filament
  • 2x z-disc

Material:

  • PLA

Printer:

  • Prusa mini+ (0.4 nozzel)
  • 0.25 mm layer height (DRAFT)
  • 5% infill
  • Supports: for thick filament only (I recommend ‘organic’ supports).
  • Thick filament had to be placed in the print space diagonal to fit onto the prusa mini build plate.
  • The z-disc has to be split into two parts to fit on the prusa mini build plate(orthogonal to the long axis of the z-disc model; align model with z-axis and split at half the z-height).
