The EKET cubes from IKEA are great, but sometimes you want to hide something, like a router, NAS, or other ugly and/or blinky things in them. This cover wil do just that + it makes a nice “eyes of Sauron” effect at night, if it is used to hide things with LEDs. It is designed to provide ventilation so your gear does not get hot. Designed to be printed in parts so you don't need a very big printer.

Instructions:

  1. Print one “krog.stl” for the centrepiece in the accent color (red in the photo).
  2. Print four “krilo.stl” pieces for the four wings in the base color (white in the photo).
  3. Arrange the four wings top-down (with inserts and pegs upwards) and place the centrepiece holes on the pegs.
  4. Add a drop or two of superglue on the peg-hole interfaces to fix everything together, wait until it cures.
  5. Insert the finished cover with legs in the EKET cube, you are done. The friction should be enough to keep it in place. If it is not, just wrap a rubber band around the top of each leg, this will be more than enough to provide needed friction and not visible.

Print settings:

Make sure you get a good-looking first layer, this will be the exposed side. This is easier if you use a thick layer setting. This will also improve printing speed and does not impact the final look. You can use any filament you want, except flexibles. If it will be directly exposed to the sun, maybe go with something like PETG or ABS, so it won't sag, if it gets too warm.
