NOTE!! No MMU or multitool printer is required to print this model!

Merry Christmas! This is the multicolor version of my Christmas Tux model, the famous Linux brand mascot originally designed by Larry Ewing in 1996.

It is 1.4 mm thick and can be stuck to any flat surface with a bit of sticky tack. It requires 6 filament changes throughout printing and uses multiple colors in the same layer using a bit of print profile magic (print and printer profile also provided if you're curious).

The filament color change order is listed below. When the print starts it will immediately initiate a filament change. This corresponds to the first color in the list below (black). Then just follow along when next filament change occurs.

Printing instructions:

  • Print at 0.20 layer height (Important!!!)
  • PLA recommended
    • 4 colors needed (black, white, orange / yellow, red)
  • Print from the provided gcode file or…
  • Slice from the provided 3mf file
    • Special magic has been applied to allow multicolor printing in the same layer
    • Don't worry that the print looks all black when slicing it. The color changes are applied automatically through the print profile using a regular expression after slicing it, thus they don't show up in the slicer.

Color change order

  1. Black
  2. White
  3. Orange / yellow
  4. Red
  5. White
  6. Orange / yellow

Other notes:

The print and printer profile are provided to let you see what changes are required to make multicolor in the same layer happen. Basically it boils down to this:

  • A regular expression switches all tool changes for a filament change gcode (m600)
  • The printer profile is set up as a multi-extruder printer

The Blender file and stl files are also provided in case anyone needs them.
