For years, the armrests of my Aeron have bothered me. They were always getting in the way of my legs, my desk, or both. Last week, I finally decided to remove them to solve the problem. Imagine my dismay when I found out they can't be fully removed non-destructively (http://www.markgardnergibson.com/projects/aeron/index.shtml)!

Thankfully, it is possible to remove the actual swinging “arm” part of the armrests, leaving just a small stub on either side. These covers fix the aesthetics and danger of the exposed metal bits. Notes:

  • Mine were printed with the PrusaSlicer's “fuzzy skin”, which defaults to 0.3mm. This is more intense than I'd prefer; if I re-printed, I'd probably go 0.1mm or no fuzzy skin at all.
  • I printed them upside down with organic supports, which worked well. It took something like 7 hours.
  • Unlike the print in the photo, the 3D model uploaded here does not need to be mirrored. You can just print two of them as-is.
  • Check out the guide here if you need help removing the armrests: https://www.printables.com/model/581077-armrest-lock-herman-miller-aeron
