My wife is a Yoga Teacher and she wanted a piggy bank for her students so I created this model.
Update Nov. 18 2023 - I got a few requests for a better lock mechanism so I added a magnet version. Just throw the cover to the base and it will snap in place!
I designed 3 versions:
The “magnet” version which will snap very nicely to open and close this Yoga Piggy Bank.
This version has a “regular” base (one color) and a “2 color” Cover.
I'm using 6x2mm magnets (3 of them for a nice lock). There should be enough tolerance (0.2) to fit nicely but I'll suggest a drop of glue so magnets always stay in place.
I'm adding the SketchUp file if you want to use different magnets.
This is an easy version to print, no support needed for the base, I'll recommend to use support for the Cover to make sure to have perfect shapes for the magnet but this is very minimum support (and it will work without support as well).
I'll also recommend ironing the last top surface for the Cover to make it nicer.
The Cover will need a change of color. PLA is great for this.
The “embossed” version with two colors for both the Base and the Cover.
This version does not require any magnet and the base will adjust to the top by friction.
It will require to change color for both the Base and the Cover and if you want to make it perfect you will have to use support which will take longer and more filament. It actually works without support but it will be not as clean.
The “flat” version with a single color for both the Base and the Cover.
This version does not require any magnet either and the Base will adjust to the Cover by friction.
This is the simplest version to print, nothing special to do, no support is required.
You can actually mix these two options “embossed” and “flat” (but not with the magnet version).
The best compromise for time and support would be to use the “flat” version of the Base and the “embossed” (2 colors) version of the Cover.
With these embossed and flat versions, you can play with the size directly in Prusa Slicer.
I designed the larger possible design in SketchUp to fit on a 200x200 bed in SketchUp and reduced it to 70% in the 3MF files attached. This 70% version is perfect for French bank notes :) so you can try bigger or smaller based on your need (and, of course, keep the same ratio for the base and cover).
You cannot though change the size though in Prusa Slicer for the “magnet” version as it will also change the size of the magnets (but you can use the SketchUp if you want to further play with this).
On the embossed and flat version, the Top should fit and hold once pushed onto the base. Depending on your printer, you may have to sand a little or use a deburrer on the edge but with my MK3S+ it worked well.
To open the Cover, you just have to use a sharp object (small knife) to open it (not as nice an easy than using the magnet version but it just requires printed parts if you don't have magnets).
Recommended printer settings:
Nozzle diameter : 0.4mm
Layer height: 0.2mm Quality
PLA is fine
change of color are indicated in the embossed version for all 3MF files
Please let me know if you have more requests.
PS : Tirelire use in the file names is the French word for Piggy Bank (as you can guess I'm French)
