The location of the stock filament sensor works ok-ish with the BTT SFS V2, but if you changed the printer to direct drive, you probably had to reduce the maximum print height too to avoid damaging the bowden tube or adding unnecessary friction into the filament path between the sensor and the extruder.

This mount aims to fix that by moving the sensor to the side, no additional hardware required.

Assembly:

  • Screw the mount into the sensor with two of the screws that came with it, like below. Note that the other two screw holes are facing the outer side of the sensor:
  • Remove the two left screws holding the X stepper motor and screw it back with the sensor mount between them.
  • Install the bowden tube into the extruder and the sensor. Make sure that the carriage can move freely and the tube does not get stuck when moving from the maximum height to the minimum height.

Footnotes:

  • To get consistent results with the sensor, the whole filament path between the sensor and the extruder should pass through a bowden tube
  • This mount may be compatible with the Neptune 2 and similar printers, but further validation is needed
