Ergonomic Pin Vise Drill Knurled handle

This small pin vise was hard to hold. Inspired by and old Craftsman Ratchet driver I once owned.

Note: The egg-shaped handle grip spins independent of the body. It is not a requirement for this model but makes for a more comfortable grip. One can resize the egg to one's own hand.

This was inspired by an old craftsman Ergonomic handle ratchet that I used to own. If you print it using “Fuzzy Skin” surface for the Egg-Shaped handle, you get a nice textured grip. The dimensions for the handle were taken from an egg I had in the refrigerator which seemed to be about the right size. 🥚 Note: The Egg-shaped handle is optional, the real work is done by the Knurled shaft.

  • Use M3x6 or M3x8 Screws to fasten. I undersized the holes and recommend that you use a 2.25mm - 2.5mm bit to drill out the holes for cleaner grip. Self Tapping screws are ok.
  • Use 6X wall thickness for the screws to have something to grip to.
  • Printing on a smooth plate will allow for gluing of the two halves for a permanent fit.

Here are two examples on Amazon that I used but this is a ubiquitous device that can be found online anywhere under the search pin-vise.

For those who want to try out there own efforts in CAD, here is the ONSHAPE files with Parametric values to change the dimensions to fit other hand sizes.

Note: Use the ONSHAPE export feature to export the modified model to either an STL or STEP file. STEP files are more accurate and print better.
