A small mounting bracket for the Steelseries Apex Pro keyboard to hold a USB Type-C female breakout board, allowing for the replacement of the USB Type-A pass-through port to be used as either a pass-through USB Type-C or to create a detachable cable for the keyboard.

This requires a fairly calibrated printer to get a decent result out of as the part is quite small and can be fiddly to print in an orientation that doesn't cause issues with the USB Type-C hole. I managed to print this face down without a brim or any form of support, but it required a second copy elsewhere on the print bed to ensure the nozzle wasn't on the part at all times.

Printed in eSun Matte PLA (black) at 0.6mm width and 0.3mm line height, you may get better results with a smaller nozzle and line height.

The mount is built with these PENGLIN 10PCS USB Type C Connector breakout boards in mind. Once the board has been inserted I recommend gluing it in place in some way (hot glue was my choice) to ensure the board can't move forward when removing a cable.

If you intend on making a cable for the keyboard to give you a detachable cable, be aware that the wiring order for the main keyboard cable is as follows if altering the stock cable;

  • Red is 5V
  • Yellow is ground
  • White is D-
  • Green is D+
  • The fifth black cable should be soldered to the shielding layer of the cable on one end and the Type-C housing on the other

The USB pass-through portion of the stock cable may have a different wiring order, I haven't attempted to replace the connector on that part as I only wanted a detachable main cable.

This may not apply to all revisions of the keyboard, and while this modification can likely be made to Apex 3, 5 and 7 keyboards I can't confirm how their cables or casing are built so this mount may need tweaking to fit these.
