I bought a piece of D2 tool steel when I was a teenager with the intent of making it into a knife one day. 10 or so years later, that day has come, and this is the design I chose. It's basically a gerber StrongArm with a Tanto style blade. The monolithic 3D print makes for a good prop, and hey, if you like it, consider purchasing the actual knife from me. I'll make them in my machine shop out of hardened and tempered D2 Tool Steel with a Nylon12 SLS 3D printed grip.

I oriented the print as shown below and used the standard 0.3mm DRAFT settings with Overature PLA Pro Black and the following modifications:

Layers and perimeters > Vertical Shells

Perimeters: 3

Support Material

  • Generate support material: ON
  • Style: Organic
  • Top contact Z distance: 0.1 (detachable)
  • Interface pattern spacing: 0.0 mm
