If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing. An adapter to fit a 60mm Noctua PWM fan to the official Raspberry Pi 5 fan case, which is quieter and should last longer than the original fan. Clips in place instead of the transparent plate of the original. The basic frame does block direct access to the GPIO header; there is a slightly taller one with a cutout that a ribbon cable can pass through to bring the GPIO pins outside the case.

I printed with Prusament recycled PETG, PLA may not be ideal for this. You may have to flip the model upside down in the slicer so the flat “top” lies flush on the build plate.

Note about electrical connections (RasPi on the left, NOCTUA on the right):

  1. Pin1 (5V) red → YELLOW
  2. Pin2 (pwm) blue → BLUE
  3. Pin3 (gnd) black → BLACK
  4. Pin4 (rpm) yellow → GREEN

There's also a fan guard, which is quick and easy to print, but there are plenty more fancy models on the site if you want something snazzy.
