Edited 10/3/24: Quest 3 Version, Coming Soon

This is a modification to Bluefreddo's pistol grip add-on to the Quest 2.

The grip is just a bit too short for my grip style so I wanted to add an extension spacer to it. Another thing is that I have a hard time activating the pass-through mode with a double tap. That's where this baby comes in. The extension can be printed in TPU to soften the taps on your goggles.

In this package you will find a grip with 4x insert holes. There are two thicknesses of spacer one in 3mm, and one in 8mm. There is also assist shims that you can use for supports.

Stuff you'll need:

Print Settings:

  • Grip & (optional) Spacers: I recommend PETG(+),ASA/ABS +4 wall, 0.20mm layer height, 15% gyroid infill, maybe fuzzy skin at 0.20mm-0.30mm. Copy & Paste the items, then mirror to make the other side. Use Snug Supports for Quest 3 version as there's a window for the grip IR LED.
  • Extensions & Knucle straps: TPU, +4 wall, 0.20mm layer height, 20% honeycomb infill. Fuzzy skin not needed. Do not print with supports. Take note of the arrow pointing forward. The grips are not symmetrical and one side must point forward. Copy & Paste the items, then mirror to make the other side. USE SUPPORTS.

Assembly instructions:

  • The grips require 4x M3x4mm heat inserts. Go ahead and install those.
  • Pop the spacers out of the extensions.
  • Match the extension to the correct side grip.
  • Attach with 4x M4x6mm screws.

Fitment troubleshooting:

  • Sometimes the print might be a bit tight. This is a good thing. I find slightly warming the inside of the grips with a heat gun or pen torch and letting it settle a bit before pushing it into a controller helps form the pieces together.

Have fun. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll see what I can do to help.

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Quest 2 Version: Added 4 anchor points and a baseplate for extending the grip area. The extension plate can also be printed in TPU, which helps for tapping the Quest 2 headset to activate the pass-through.

Quest 3 Version: Added a window on the side for the grip-mounted IR LED. Cut the geometry of the rear strap to avoid a sharp jab. Added a hanging clip for taking breaks between games.
